What does the 80’s courtroom TV-drama Matlock and the 90’s positive-minded hip hop collective Native Tongues have in common? They both are essential in forming the aesthetics of Loque’s performance Mathop. The dynamic duo strives to create an unexpected juxtaposition of samples derived from the two sources. They use microphones attached to an acoustic drum set in order to trigger samples, which allows space for interplay, improvisation and interpretation between the performer responsible of the sample content and the performer behind the drums controlling the temporal dimension of all sound events.
